Eastern Green Mamba Size report

The eastern green mamba belongs to the cobra family, a highly venomous snake that lives in eastern Africa. The eastern green mamba is as green as bamboo, its head is as thin as its body, and it can move flexibly between branches. Eastern green mambas are highly arboreal and do not stay on the ground unless rehydrated.

The green mamba is a relative of the black mamba snake, but it is not as poisonous as the black mamba. They both inherit the inherent advantages of fast movement and win with speed and hunt with venom.

Except for the breeding season, the eastern green mamba is solitary and feeds during the day, mostly on birds, birds' eggs, frogs, lizards, snakes, and other small mammals. The eastern green mamba likes to hide, has a shy personality, and rarely attacks humans actively, but it will be extremely ferocious when threatened. Let's learn more about this brightly colored, highly venomous snake.

Eastern Green Mamba Size and Appearance

The eastern green mamba is native to eastern Africa and is considered one of the fastest snakes in the world, with a speed of more than 11 kilometers per hour. The eastern green mamba is green all over; its head and slightly compressed body are slender, like a thin green branch, and it has a medium to long tapering tail. The dorsal scales are smooth and shiny. The eyes are medium size with round pupils. The inside of the mouth may be white or bluish-white.

An adult eastern green mamba has a bright green upper body and a pale chartreuse belly. Juveniles are blue-green, becoming a brighter green as the skin is successively shed. The bright green color is also their protective color, as the eastern green mamba is an arboreal snake. The green skin helps them camouflage and hide in evergreen bushes and woods to avoid predators and hunt better.

Average Size of Eastern Green Mamba

The eastern green mamba is a large snake. Adult males average around 1.8 meters in total length, while females average 2.0 meters. This species rarely exceeds lengths of 2.5 meters. Adults typically weigh approximately between 1 to 1.5 kilograms. Eastern green mambas have a typical lifespan of 14-18 years.
