Vicente Calderón Stadium Size

The Vicente Calderón Stadium was originally called the Manzanares Stadium, which was named after its location on the banks of the Manzanares River. Later the name of the stadium has been changed to Vicente Calderón Stadium in 1971 to commemorate Atlético de Madrid's greatest president, Mr. Vincent Calderon. On October 2, 1966, the Manzanares Stadium was officially inaugurated with a capacity of 62,000 people at that time. Since the fans did not expect as many, the stadium has been rebuilt to a certain extent, so the capacity has been reduced. Vincent Calderon Stadium was one of the best stadiums in the world, with a capacity of more than 5,400 people, was awarded a 5-star football stadium by UEFA in 2003.

Vicente Calderón Stadium Dimensions and Capacity

Vicente Calderón Stadium is one of the largest stadiums in Madrid and even in Spain, with the pitch size of 107 x 70 m. The facilities of this stadium were also the most advanced at the time and could accommodate 54,851 people to watch the game at the same time. The stadium has been little changed over the years, with only a few renovations, including the installation of red, white and blue seating, which has also reduced capacity slightly.

Final Words

On July 30, 2007, Club Atlético de Madrid signed an agreement with two companies to move the home stadium from Vicente Calderón Stadium to La Peineta, accommodating about 73,000 people after the expansion. Most people who have witnessed the history of the Vicente Calderón Stadium are locals of Madrid, and many of the elderly have lived here for more than 30 years. The loud cheers in the stadium on game days have long become an inseparable part of daily life for the surrounding residents. When Madrid announced the decision to move out of this old stadium, many fans were moved to tears and even launched a joint protest against the club, which is by no means an exaggerated reaction.
