Description of the Tyne Bridge Size
Tyne Bridge linked the city of Newcastle with the town of Gateshead and accompanied by the Swing Bridge, the High Level Bridge, and the Gateshead Millennium Bridge. The bridge was designed by Mott Hay and Anderson. The Hell's Gate Bridge in New York City inspired the parabolic arch bridge. The bridge was completed on February 25, 1928, and inaugurated on October 10 by King George V and Queen Mary, who were the first to hit the road.
The Tyne Bridge was built with 7,112 tonnes of steel and cost £1.2 million in total. Its towers are built from Cornish granite and were designed by a local architect as warehouses with five floors. But, the inner floors of the warehouses were never completed; as a result, the storage areas were never used. The bridge was originally painted green with special paint made by the J. Dampney Co. of Gateshead. In 2000, the bridge was painted in the same color.

Tyne Bridge is a road bridge consisting of two curved trusses with Warren bracing and is perhaps the most recognized and popular landmark in Newcastle. The bridge was unusual in being a toll-free crossing; the construction required a lot of workforces and material resources. The huge north and south towers were five stories high. At night, the twinkling lights on the steel bridge make the scenery across the river special.
