Stamford Bridge Stadium Size report

Stamford Bridge Stadium is the home ground of Chelsea Football Club in Fulham, London. It was built in 1877, with more than 100 years of history. For the first 28 years since its operation, the stadium was used almost exclusively by the London Athletic Club as a venue for track and field v games rather than football.

Stamford Bridge was originally planned to be leased to Fulham Football Club. The owners rejected it, set up Chelsea Football Club, and used the stadium as the home ground from 1905 until today. The old stadium has witnessed the founding of Chelsea Football Club and all its glory and failures. Chelsea fans expect to watch a great game here in their lifetime.

This ground has seen all kinds of superstars over the years. Although we know Stamford Bridge is the home of Chelsea Football Club, we would like to share some interesting facts about the famous football stadium, such as its architectural size and design.

Stamford Bridge Stadium Size and Design

Archibald Leith designed Stamford Bridge. Archibald-Leith designed the stadium with a capacity of 10,000 people, and it was the second largest stadium in the UK at the time, after Crystal Palace, which hosted the FA Cup final. There was originally a 120-yard stand platform on the stadium's east side, which could hold 5,000 spectators. Over the decades, the area of the stadium has changed from a huge oval to a quadrilateral; its capacity also changed several times. The stadium now has four stand areas: the East Stand, West Stand, Matthew Harding Stand, and Shed Stand.

On the 12.5 acres occupied by the stadium, modern facilities such as two four-star hotels, five restaurants, conference facilities, a nightclub, underground parking, a health center, and a business center have been built. The Stamford Bridge Stadium was already very different from the original one in 1876.

Stamford Bridge Stadium Dimensions and Capacity

Stamford Bridge Stadium is the third largest stadium in London with a current capacity of more than 40,341 spectators. Chelsea's pitch is 103 meters long and 67 meters wide, making a total playing area of 6,990 square meters, making it the fifth-smallest pitch in the Premier League.
