Soccer Goal Size Guide

According to FIFA regulations, a soccer goal consists of two upright posts joined together horizontally by a crossbar and are situated equidistant from the corner flags on each side of the pitch. The crossbar and goalposts must be made from wood, metal, or other approved material, and the posts must be either round, rectangular, square, or elliptical. FIFA Soccer Goal Dimensions

The regulation soccer goal size measures 24 feet (8 yards, 7.32m) x 8 feet (2.44m). And it has been so since 1866. And those are soccer goal dimensions FIFA. But the standard soccer goal size is not appropriate for soccer players of all ages.

• The goalposts should be 8 yards apart, while the edge of the crossbar, at its lowest, should measure 8 feet from the ground.
• Both the goalposts and crossbar should have a uniform width and depth, not greater than 5 inches (12 cm).
• Goal nets can be attached, but they are required to drape on the ground behind the goal, and should not impede or interfere with the actions of a goalkeeper in any way.\

NCAA Soccer Goal Dimensions

• The goal consists of two posts and a crossbar made of the same or similar material.
• The lower edge of the crossbar should sit 8 feet from the ground, while the distance from the corner flags to the outside of each post must be a minimum of 8 yards on either side.
• The posts and the crossbar must be painted white and square, round, rectangular, or elliptical. They should be between 4 and 5 inches (10.16 and 12.7 cm) in width and diameter.

NFHS Soccer Goal Dimensions

The NFHS is the national leader and advocate for high school athletics. Every year NFHS releases a rule book containing that year's official rules and regulations of matches.

• The goals shall be placed on the line with an equal distance from the corner flags and 8 yards apart.
• A 4-inch should join the tops of the goalposts, but not more than a 5-inch horizontal crossbar; the posts should be 8 feet tall from the ground.
• Soccer goals shall be white.

US Youth Soccer Goal Dimensions

In the US, youth soccer goal dimensions are defined by the recommendations of the United States Youth Soccer Association. They are defined for various age groups, and along with the soccer goal measurements, they represent the pitch dimensions and the sizes of teams.

• For the U6, U7, and U8 selections, the soccer goals are recommended to measure 6 feet wide and 4 feet high.
• For the U9 and U10 teams, soccer goals measuring 18.5 x 6.5 feet are recommended.
• For U11 and U12, they should be 21 x 7 feet.
• The selections between U13 and U19 recommended are the full-size soccer goal dimensions, 24 x 8 feet.

AYSO Soccer Goal Dimensions

The American Youth Soccer Association (AYSO) is a non-profit organization and the oldest national youth soccer program in the United States. Its maximum goal sizes are as such:

• U6 – U8: Maximum recommended soccer goal size is 4' x 6'.
• U9 – U10: Maximum recommended soccer goal size is 6'6" x 18'6".
• U11 – U12: Maximum recommended soccer goal size is 7′ x 21'.
• U13+: Maximum recommended soccer goal size is 8′ x 24′.

Indoor Soccer Goal Dimensions

The US Soccer defines the indoor soccer goal dimensions mandated rules, and they are 14 x 8 feet.

Although it is recommended that those goal sizes be complied with, it is not a requirement that goals are of an exact size for young players. The US SOCCER has stated that soccer goal size may vary as long as it is safe and beneficial. And for older players, there are advantages to training with smaller goals than they will use in a match because it may encourage them to be more accurate in their shooting or passing techniques.
