Schönbrunn Palace Size report

Schönbrunn Palace (German: Schloss Schönbrunn) is a Baroque art building located in the southwest of Vienna, the capital of Austria. Legend has it that in 1612, the Holy Roman Emperor Matthias hunted here and drank the sweet spring water here, so he named the spring "Schönbrunn"; it has become the name of this area.

In 1696, Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach, the royal architect of the Holy Roman Empire, was ordered to build the royal palace on top of the destroyed summer palace, which was later the main body of Schönbrunn Palace. In 1743, the Austrian Empress Maria Theresia ordered the construction of the majestic Schönbrunn Palace and Baroque garden, Austria's most splendid French Baroque garden.

The most prestigious tourist attraction in Vienna is Schönbrunn Palace, and its gardens have been included in the "World Cultural Heritage List" by UNESCO. Most gardens are open to the public, except for a few dedicated royal gardens.

Schönbrunn Palace Size and Layout

The scale and luxury of Schönbrunn Palace are comparable with those of Versailles. The Baroque style dominates the entire palace, but the Rococo style dominates 44 rooms. There are also oriental buildings in the palace, such as Chinese-style rooms inlaid with red sandalwood, ceramics, and ivory, and Japanese-style rooms decorated with mud gold and lacquer. Among the dazzling array of ceramics, there are Chinese celadon, Ming Dynasty Wanli-colored porcelain plates, Cuohua vases, etc.

The royal garden on the back of Schönbrunn Palace is a typical French garden, with neatly trimmed green tree walls planted on both sides of the huge flower beds, and inside the green walls are 44 characters from Greek mythology. At the end of the garden is a Neptunbrunnen, and to the east is the inconspicuous spring, the origin of the palace's name. The highest point of Schönbrunn Palace is the Gloriette, and the west side of Neptunbrunnen is the zoo (Tierpark) and tropical plant greenhouse (Palmenhaus).

Schönbrunn Palace Dimensions

Although the size of the Schönbrunn Palace cannot be compared with the Palace of Versailles, it still shows the glory and splendor of the Habsburg family. Schönbrunn Palace covers an area of 26,000 square meters, second only to the Palace of Versailles in France. There are 1,441 magnificently decorated rooms in Schönbrunn Palace, 45 open to tourists. The garden covers an area of 2,000 square meters and has more than 300,000 trees, which have been specially pruned and shaped uniquely.

Schönbrunn Palace is one of the world's most important cultural heritage sites and one of the most popular attractions in Vienna. The Schönbrunn Palace's Royal Gardens expansion was finally completed in 1780, the last year of Maria Theresa's life. After World War II, the destroyed parts of Schönbrunn Palace were gradually restored. Since 2004, at the beginning of June every year, in the garden of Schönbrunn Palace, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra has held an open-air evening concert, which is the famous Schönbrunn Palace Night Summer Concert.
