Mount Shishapangma Height report
Mount Shishapangma, also known as Xishapangma Peak, ranks 14th among all the 8,000-meter peaks in the world, and it is also the only eight-thousand that is entirely in China. Shishapangma is located in the middle of the Himalayas, at 28°21′18″ north latitude, 85°46′44″ east longitude, about 120 kilometers southeast of Mount Everest.
Mount Shishapangma is in Nyalam County, Shigatse City, Tibet Autonomous Region, China. It was first ascended by a Chinese mountaineering team in 1964 and became the last 8,000-meter mountain to be reached. It is entirely within Tibet, and Chinese authorities have imposed restrictions on foreign tourists visiting the region.

Mount Shishapangma Height and Description
Mount Shishapangma consists of three sister peaks with similar elevations. This is one of the centers of modern glaciation in the Himalayas. The glaciers and permanent snow in the Kugangri Mountains cover an area of 6,000 square kilometers, mainly concentrated around Mount Shishapangma. The north slope faces the 13.5-kilometer-long Yebokangal Glacier; parallel to it is the Daqu Glacier. To the east of the North Ridge is the Geya Glacier, and on the south slope is the 16-kilometer-long Fuqu Glacier, whose end falls to the shrub belt at 4,550 meters. The ice tower area between 5,000 and 5,800 meters above sea level is several kilometers long. Mount Shishapangma is covered with criss-cross ice and snow cracks, so huge avalanches occur frequently.
Measurements of Mount Shishapangma
The Mount Shishapangma is 8,027 meters above sea level. It has two sister peaks with similar elevations. At 200 and 400 meters northwest of the main peak, two summits of 8,008 meters and 7,966 meters, respectively. Luo Jing, the only female climber who has climbed all 8,000-meter mountains, also suspected that she had reached the wrong summit by mistake. Its East Peak (Molamen Qingfeng) is three kilometers east of the main summit at 7,703 meters. The terrain prominence of Mount Shishapangma reaches 2,897 meters.

Mount Shishapangma was opened to foreigners in 1978, and the first foreign team successfully summited the mountain in 1980.
