History of Buckingham Palace
From 1703 to 1705, John Sheffield, Duke of Buckingham and Normanby, built a large town hall called Buckingham Palace, which constituted the main building. In 1761, King George III of England acquired the mansion and used it as a private residence. Buckingham Palace has been in the royal family since 1761.
