Belgian Horse Size report

The Belgian horse is a large draft horse descended from the Flemish "big horse" - a war horse native to the Low Countries in the Middle Ages. Many believe medieval people bred Belgian draft horses strong enough to carry heavily armored knights to battle. But experts say the current Belgian draft horse was bred in the mid-19th century for transport and to improve farming efficiency.

Belgian draft horses, still one of Belgium's most valuable exports, are now endangered in their homeland, making Flanders akin to small-town communities like Melhetem, all expressed concern. One of the most important markets for Belgian heavy draft horses in the early 20th century was the United States. Industrialization was advancing rapidly at the time, driving demand for stronger horses.

The Belgian Harness has a reputation for being docile and easy to handle. Most people keep these horses just for fun, not for profit. The number of Belgian horses has declined due to insemination, veterinary bills, medication, care, and feeding costs. You will find more interesting facts about Belgian draft horses in this post.

Belgian Horse Size And Appearance

The Belgian horse, also known as the Belgian draft horse or Brabant, is an ancient draft horse breed from the Brabant region of modern Belgium and has been improved a lot since the 1880s. The body of the Belgian horse is thick and large, with a muscular and broad back and short legs. It is one of the strongest of the heavy breeds. The head is relatively small and well-shaped. American Belgians in North America are smaller than the European Brabant but are of a similar build. Most Belgian horses are light chestnut with a flaxen mane and tail; dark reddish brown, light reddish brown, or reddish brown with white are also common.
