Baby Diaper Size report

A baby wear a diaperBecoming a new parent can be tiring. The most troublesome problem for many new parents is the diaper size chart to determine how many diapers should be stocked. Babies have to experience the use of hundreds or even thousands of diapers before toilet training. There is no doubt that every new parent will become a diaper expert.

Newborn babies can produce 10 to 12 dirty diapers per day, which is eventually reduced to 6 to 8 diapers in early childhood. Finding the right diaper size for your child with all this pee and poop in mind is crucial. Unfitting diapers can cause messy leaks, rashes, and discomfort. All parents certainly do not want leakage from a too-loose waistband or too-tight leg holes.

Choosing diaper size can be a tricky thing since there is no universal measurement guide for diapers. Sizing varies between each infant, and it depends on weight instead of age. For a general breakdown, check out our diaper size guide below before heading to the store.

Baby Diaper Size Guide

You should know that diapers are sized by weight and not by age. Most babies will start in the Newborn size then ultimately spend most of their diapering days in size 4, and it is the most popular size on the market. It is hard to accurately predict ahead of time what size diapers your baby will need at each age because babies grow at different rates. But it is safe to say babies will at least cycle through sizes 1, 2, and 3 during the first year.

Baby Diaper Size Chart

As you may notice, picking out the right diapers requires considering your baby’s body type. A slimmer and longer baby may benefit from the smaller size. Finding the best diaper size might take a bit of trial and error as your child grows. Check out the following size chart, which will help you find your baby’s ideal measurements in your favorite disposable diaper brands. Since diaper sizing varies between different manufacturers, this diaper size chart can only serve as a reference.

Signs Your Baby Needs a Bigger Diaper Size

Babies are growing fast, and you should pay close attention to when your baby is outgrowing its current size. The following signs indicate that it's time to upgrade a bigger diaper size for your baby:

  1. If you see red marks on the baby's skin when you change the diaper, it could be a sign that the fit is too tight.
  2. The side tabs of the diaper pop often.
  3. The waistband feels tight, and you should be able to fit two fingers underneath it.
  4. The diaper looks too small for your baby, or it doesn't cover their bottom fully.
  5. Your baby seems uncomfortable in the diaper.
