The opening of Al Rayyan Stadium is a major milestone for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar; it marks the second anniversary of the World Cup Finals countdown, which coincides with Qatar National Day. This stadium is the fourth opened stadium for the World Cup in Qatar after Khalifa International Stadium, Al Janoub Stadium, and Education City Stadium. It will also be the home stadium of the Rayyan Club.
The old Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium was built in 2003 with an initial capacity of 21,282. In 2015, demolition work began on the stadium to host the 2022 World Cup. The original plan was to expand and refurbish the existing stadium, but they built a completely new one. On December 18, 2020, the Qatar World Cup Organizing Committee announced that the new Ahmed Ben Ali Stadium was officially put into use.
Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium is located in Rayyan City, only 22 kilometers from the center of Doha. The most striking thing about Al Rayyan Stadium in Rayyan is its shiny facade, which is composed of patterns and symbols representing different characteristics of Qatar, such as vital families, beautiful deserts, local flora, fauna, etc.
Al Rayyan Stadium Size And Structure
Al Rayyan Stadium is a refurbishment, with 90% of the recycled and reused materials from the original stadium. The remaining materials from the original stadium were recycled and redesigned into public art installations. Al Rayyan Stadium's luminous appearance and shape speak to the world of Qatar's culture and traditions. The capacity has also been expanded to more than 40,000, and all seats have a canopy shade and air-conditioning cooling system, which ensures that the stadium can be used normally throughout the year. Red and black seats are used inside the stadium to pay tribute to the fans of the Laiyang team because red and black are the main colors of the Laiyang team jerseys.

During the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the Ahmed Ben Ali Stadium has a capacity of up to 44,740 spectators for a single match. After the World Cup, the stadium will reduce its capacity to 21,000 people and will continue to be used as the home stadium of Ruiyang Sports Club. Its modular upper deck will be removed, and the removed seats will be repurposed for other stadium facilities in Qatar and overseas.

The whole Ahmed Ben Ali Sports Center covers an area of about 69 hectares, located at the city border of Doha, connecting the city and the desert. Multiple sports facilities around the main stadium will cater to the needs of athletes and the local community. The transportation around the Ahmed Ben Ali Stadium is very convenient. During the World Cup in Qatar, fans can get out of Al Riffa Station on the Green Line of the Doha Metro and then walk to the stadium.
